Older Adult Abuse is...

A crime

Older Adult Abuse is a crime like any other. Only the victim's age is different. It is painful but true that it can affect older adults in any walk of life or any kind of family.

It goes unreported

Elder abuse victims often live in silent desperation, unwilling to seek assistance for one or many reasons. They may believe their cries for help will go unanswered, or they may fear retaliation from their abusers. Many remain silent to protect abusive family members, or are too embarrassed to admit that they have fallen victim to predators. Others fear that no one will believe them - chalking up their allegations to the effects of old age. It may take the courage of a caring family member, friend or caretaker to take action if the victim is reluctant.

You can be part of the solution

With your vigilance, care and cooperation, elder abuse can be stopped and its perpetrators arrested and prosecuted. In the past four years alone, social service and law enforcement resources have expanded dramatically to meet the growing need. HELP IS AVAILABLE.

Our goal is to have events planned in every region of Manitoba. It can be as simple as wearing purple ribbons, displaying information & resources or hosting a coffee break.  Nothing is too small to be considered.

We encourage you to wear purple - take a photo and send it to us - all submissions will be entered in a draw to win an Apple IPOD Touch.

Elder abuse is everyone’s business, together we can prevent the abuse of older Manitobans.
